Ylan Nguyen successfully defended her PhD thesis today in front of a sellout crowd of supporters and her external examiner, Dr. Lisa Craig from Simon Fraser University. Ylan’s work focused on structural and functional characterization of type IV pilins and minor pilins, key components of the grappling hook-like appendages used by Pseudomonas to crawl across surfaces. Ylan has published 3 papers with another ready to go, and held both Cystic Fibrosis Canada and CIHR studentships during her PhD. She will stay on as a PDF in the Burrows lab to wrap up some additional work before moving to her next position. Congratulations Ylan!
